PetroLuxus™

FAQ

What is PetroLuxus™?

PetroLuxus™ is a family of products that were developed over fifteen years of study and trial. The products are proprietary in nature and were developed to liberate hydrocarbons from a variety of materials and media.  All PetroLuxus™ products share basic and inherent characteristics to act with hydrocarbons on a molecular level and cause them to lose their attraction to water, metals, minerals, and other particulate matter.  PetroLuxus™ is a highly concentrated product with an elevated pH.  When introduced into a well formation, PetroLuxus™ will interact with H2S that is present to cause the H2S to breakdown into water and sodium sulphide, thus dramatically reducing corrosion. Further, in the presence of acids, the high pH of PetroLuxus™ will act as a buffering agent to raise the relative pH and reduce corrosion. This action combined with the presence of silicon in PetroLuxus™ will deposit a protective coating on the surface of metal components. Added benefits to application of PetroLuxus™ include friction reduction and promotion of separation for lower BS&W.

Why does it work on hydrocarbons?

When in contact with oil / hydrocarbons it acts as a surfactant, by reducing surface tension, and breaks the bond of oil to other materials.  Several inherent characteristics allow PetroLuxus™ to break the bond of oil to mineral surfaces. PetroLuxus™ is designed to disperse and penetrate, to disrupt the weak hydrogen bond of oil to mineral surfaces to which it is attached, and then to displace the oil from pores and other spaces.  Once the bond is broken between oil and other materials, PetroLuxus™ enhances the natural tendency of the oil to be hydrophobic and colloidal, thus promoting efficient separation. Unlike common surfactants, PetroLuxus™ is derived from inorganic materials and will not form an emulsion.

How does it work in down hole environments?

Many variables exist in oil formations, including, mineral composition, temperature, pressure, oil type and quality, water type, and the presence of many compounds that affect the ability to produce oil. PetroLuxus™ is designed to work within a wide array of variables encountered in oil formations. Its basic functions are to release oil, enhance flow characteristics, reduce corrosion, disperse paraffin and asphaltene, and provide protection to metal production components. PetroLuxus™ performs these functions in most environments and formation types.

How does PetroLuxus™ work with water?

PetroLuxus™ is readily dispersed in water and is totally soluble. The chemical will reside in the water and does not mix with or change the characteristics of oil.

Is PetroLuxus™ a surfactant?

No. It has surfactant like qualities in that it readily reduces surface tension that allows oil to release from other materials. The mechanism involved is disruption to weak hydrogen bonding of oil to surfaces. PetroLuxus™ is derived from inorganic materials; surfactants are typically made from organic materials which possess entirely different chemical properties.

Does PetroLuxus™ inhibit corrosion?

Yes, in several ways. PetroLuxus™ s a highly concentrated elevated pH product and because of this, PetroLuxus™ acts as a buffering agent in an acidic environment. The acid is neutralized to reduce corrosion. Further, in the presence of H2S, PetroLuxus™ reacts to breakdown the H2S to water and sodium sulphide, a much less corrosive material that will be carried out of the well during production. In contact with metal, PetroLuxus™ reacts with metal surfaces and deposits a microscopic layer of protection that resists corrosion and buildup. Lastly, the high pH environment created by PetroLuxus™   reduces the ability of microbes and bacteria to thrive.

Does PetroLuxus™ affect H2S?

PetroLuxus™ can reduce the corrosive effects of H2S by breaking the bond of Hydrogen and Sulphur into water and sodium sulphide that is carried out of the well during production.

What effect does PetroLuxus™ have on parrafin?

PetroLuxus™ works with solvents like oil, diesel fuel, xylene and others to break down paraffin buildup. PetroLuxus™ enhances the solvent by suspending and dispersing the paraffin, once broken down, so that it can be carried out of the well with the produced oil. Contact of PetroLuxus™ with metal surfaces leaves a protective e layer that further resists formation and buildup of paraffin on tubular and equipment.

What effect does PetroLuxus™ have on asphaltenes?

Asphaltenes are heavy hydrocarbon compounds that tend to mass together and create restriction. PetroLuxus™ reacts with asphaltenes much the same as with paraffin. The asphaltene is broken down into small particles that will suspend and be carried with oil flow.

What is PetroLuxus™ WC-100 and how does it work around the wellbore?

WC-100 is a well clean up product. It embodies the basic characteristics of all PetroLuxus™ products to release oil. However, WC-100 is designed to target cleanup of the production string and near wellbore matrix of the formation. Many wells are plagued with production and mechanical issues resulting from fouling and corrosion. WC-100 is designed to penetrate pore spaces, displace oil, open pore channels and increase permeability that have been compromised from years of production. Further, production tubing and equipment can become fouled from many corrosive materials that compromise performance and increase cost. WC-100 effectively cleans corrosion and provides a protective layer to equipment that reduces fouling.

What does PetroLuxus™    WC -100 do to perforations?

Perforations that are fouled from corrosion build up or paraffin and asphaltene will benefit from treatment by cleaning and opening the perforations.

Will PetroLuxus™   WC-100 harm my equipment?

No. in fact, PetroLuxus™ will improve metal production components by cleaning and leaving a layer of protection to reduce further problems.

How is WC-100 applied?

PetroLuxus™ WC-100 can be applied with water as a down hole treatment. It can be applied with hot oil, diesel fuel, xylene or other petroleum based solvents for paraffin and asphaltene treatment. For maintenance of a well, the product can be applied as a drip treatment. PetroLuxus™ WC-100 can also be used as biocide to treat produced water.

What is the general rule of thumb for down hole well treatment procedure?

PetroLuxus™ is applied at the rate of (1.00) gal / bbl. of water. Determine the depth of the zone and the diameter of penetration desired around the well bore. A 4.5” diameter well bore requires approximately 2 bbl. of water per 100 ft and 2.0 gals. of PetroLuxus™.

Calculate volume of water required to fill bore and desired near well bore area based on the following:

Example:

Well diameter: 4.5”

Well Depth: 5000 ft.

Zone thickness: 10 ft.

Near well bore diameter contact area: 30 ft.

Porosity: 15% (open area)

Calculate water and PetroLuxus™

Well Bore volume of water = 2 bbls. per 100 ft. or 100 bbls.

Near well bore water volume= ∏ x r₂ = 3.14 x (15 ft. x 15 ft.) x 10 ft. = 3.14 x 225 x 15 = 7065 cu. ft. x 15% = 1060 cu. ft. (open area of pores) x 7.5 gal. (per cu.f t.) = 7948 gals. ÷ 42 = 189 bbls.

Total water volume = 100 bbls. + 189 bbls. = 289 bbls.

Total PetroLuxus™   Volume = 1.00 gals. x 289 = 289 gals.

What equipment is required to treat a well with PetroLuxus™ WC-100?

A manifold at the wellhead to accommodate water truck or pump truck connections, typically 2” is sufficient. A pressure gauge should be installed at the well head to check initial pressure and to monitor any increase during application or during shut in period that is caused by release of gas.

Water truck (130 bbls. vacuum truck) and/or pump truck (if pressure is required)

Typically, wells can be treated with a water truck. Most wells will go on vacuum and take water by gravity.

How is PetroLuxus™ WC-100 injected?

·         Introduce 25 bbls. of water

·         Introduce 25% of chemical

·         Introduce 25 bbls. of water with 25% chemical mixed

·         Introduce balance of chemical

·         Introduce balance of water

How long will my well be offline?

·         1 day of treatment

·         48 hours, minimum,  to sit in the well

·         48 hours to circulate

After injection what next?

·         Bring well back on line after circulating.

How long will it take see oil?

·         After injected water is recovered but can be as early as one week.

Should I capture the water for reuse?

·         Yes. The flow should retain efficacy from unused chemical at nearly 50%. Capture or divert to another nearby well as a treatment. Check the pH of the produced water and reuse if above 10.

What is the general rule of thumb for using PetroLuxus™ WC-100 as a hot oil additive?

Add one (1) gal. per barrel of hot oil, diesel fuel, xylene or preferred solvent to be use in the paraffin / asphaltene treatment

What is the general rule of thumb for using PetroLuxus™ WC-100 as a drip additive to reduce H2S and corrosion problems?

Purpose:   Corrosion Inhibitor, Microbe / Bacteria Control, Sulfur Reduction

Rate:  Continuous daily drip application

8 oz. per bbl. or 128 ounces (1 gal.) PetroLuxus per (16) sixteen barrels of total production

Example I

·         (16) sixteen bbls. / day total production requires 128 ounces (one gal.)

·         128 ounces ÷ 24 hrs. = 5.3 ounces per hour drip rate

Example II

·         (30) thirty bbls. / day total production requires (8 oz. x 30) 240 ounces (1.875 gals. or 30 pints)

·         240 ounces ÷ 24 hrs. = 10 ounces per hour drip rate

Procedure:

Connect barrel of PetroLuxus to the well head injector and adjust flow rate per above examples.

What is the general rule of thumb for using PetroLuxus™ WC-100 as a Biocide Produced Water Treatment?

Purpose: Microbe / Bacteria Control in Injection Water

Rate:  (5) five gals. per (100) one hundred bbls. of produced water

Procedure: Add directly to volume of produced water prior to reinjection at the suggested rate and provide mild agitation or circulation to mix.

Note:

The application rates are approximated based on typical application. Depending on the individual well or produced water issues, treatment rates can be less and can be adjusted to the desired result and performance.
